Location Research

The location is very important to us as a group because we want it to be the first thing that views see that establishes the genre. Graveyards are very cold, shallow and moist places and often have a musky smellThey are full of old and new headstones and very big and mature trees that are blocking out sunlight. Graveyards give a creepy and intimidating feel which we are aiming to do in film.

The ideal location for our film will be shot in a graveyard. As a group we decided upon filming our film in a graveyard because a graveyard is an area for the dead and before a human transforms into a  vampire they goes through certain stages and death is one of them. Because a transformation will be happening in our film, if we were to film it in a graveyard it will be indicating both death in the graveyard and the death that happens to a vampire during a transformation.

These shots that have been taken will be the exact spot we will be filiming our movie. We have decided to use this section of the graveyard because it is the older area of the graveyard and it gives the creepy and intimidating feel we are aiming for. Also in some of these shots, the lighting is very low and low key lighting oftern establishes the genre.

The graveyard we have chosen as a group is in heston. It's local to us and it would be no problem for us to meet up. Also the cemetry is the only graveyard thats open during night.

The art of title

  1. A close up of an alligator with its mouth closed however with it's sharp teeth on show. The meaning towards this is simply its comparison to a vampires fangs. The alligator is mainly on focus showing that it is the main center of interest. The genre is established through the setting, lighting and the alligator.
  2. A medium shot of a snake which is looks like it is about to attack an insect. Snakes often bite there preys with there fangs before eating them; biting signifies a vampire as vampires bites their preys with their fangs  before sucking there blood. The lighting in the setting is dark however there is high key lighting on the snake showing it is the center of interest in this image. The genre is established through the dark lighting, the snake, its posture and fangs as well as the rocky setting.
  3. A medium shot a a vehicle which seems to be trapped. The vehicle indicates a journey most likely before the vehicle got trapped. The setting is in a forest which signifies danger. The tree branches have been blurred slightly and the vehicle has high key lighting which shows that the trapped vehicle is the main spotlight. The genre is established through the setting.
  4. An extreme close up of a young boy chewing on a body part (the image is not really clear so i just guessed). Blood is smeared all over his mouth. The meaning towards it is its comparison to a vampire that has just sucked on human blood. It also connotes a children whilst eating as they often eat messily and carelessly. The genre is established though the smeared blood.
  5. A close up of a full moon. The meaning towards this is that in vampire movies, vampires are more active on a full moon and all their supernatural powers increase during that night especially their thirst for blood. The genre is established through the whole image itself.
  6. A close up of two women looking disorientated. On of the women has her hands clasped together in a praying gesture. This could indicate danger is about to occur. The lighting is very low however high key lighting is just on their faces which is showing that their facial expressions is the main center of interest in this image. The genre established through there disorientated facial expressions as well as the low key lighting.
  7. Extreme close up of a Venus fly trap eating away on a spider. The image denotates a very scary feeling as well as connotating death. The meaning towards this photo is its analogy to vampires killing their prey after draining their blood. The sharp thorns on the Venus fly trap is similar to fangs. The background of the Venus fly trap is blurred which shows that the main focus is on the fly trap. The genre is established through the thorns and the killing of the spider.
  8. The words "TRUEBLOOD" is written in capital letters and white text colour. The meaning towards this is to simply make those words the main interest towards the image. The word 'BLOOD' refers to vampires as they drink blood. The red background also refers to blood. The cracks in the image signify trouble and exposure. The genre is established through the red background and text.
  9. A long shot of tow men who seem to be fighting in the river. The timing of this image must be at night as it is pitch black however lighting is shown through the men in white t-shirts. The meaning towards this is that the men are trying to be made the main interest in the image as everything else is black. Black signifies death and the white signifies innocence. The genre is established through the setting.

Synopsis:

"Soya Blood" - (name still not decided)

Catherine is celebrating her 16th birthday. Her parents send her out to pick up a few things at night. As she makes her way back home after collecting the things her parents had wanted, she gets bitten by a vampire.

(The vampire who bites her is not shown)

She then becomes a vampire and returns home. At home there is a surprise birthday party planned by her friends and family. She plays along for a bit and celebrates her birthday. She then becomes really "thirsty" and pulls aside one of her friends and drinks her blood but doesn't stop and her friend dies; once biting her friend, a homing signal gets sent out (that she doesn’t blocked out) to other vampires about 10 miles radius. Within minutes vampires arrive and kill the entire party guests.

(Vampires not shown; only the girl)

{The 2 mins opening sequence will be up to here roughly}

The 16 year old is very regretful over killing her friend and moves to Romania, Transylvania to live a life of a vampire but finds it extremely hard and doesn't want to become a vampire however finds it hard to go against what has become "natural" for her.

As time gradually passes, she meets a human boy and falls in love with him. Her teenage hormones kick in but as well as her new 'vampiric' hunting instincts. The vampire then stalks the boy and confronts him. He sees her for what she really is and he gets frightened and tries to get rid of her but she refuses to be put down. She becomes violent and kidnaps him and tortures him. She then begins to play games with him (as in let him run away for a bit but then chases him). Whilst he’s sleeping, she grabs him and bites him. She is unable to control herself and drains all his blood. Once again she is very regretful for killing yet another person who is close to her. She then walks into the sun and burns to ashes. Unfortunately she doesn't sparkle, she dies.

Research

Transformation of Vampires - The first step to the transformation of becoming a vampire is the draining of the blood. A vampire must drain you almost completely of blood by drinking it out. Then the vampire must feed you his or hers blood (only a certain amount so that you change). After that, the body goes through death and usually by the next nightfall the transformation is complete and you are a vampire. However when the transformation is finished you will have this strong thirst and must find a donor and drink some of their blood. This is the typical steps to the transformation of a vampire. Although in our vampire movie, we will be having this transformation happening a lot quicker.

An example of a typical vampire transformation would be this clip which is a scene from ‘Interview with The Vampire. As shown clearly in this scene, the young man goes through the exact steps to the transformation of a vampire.

Female Vampires - Carmilla was the first female vampire. She was stunning, seduced men all the time with her scanty tight clothing's, posture and seductive gestures. She has all the typical conventions of a vampire (such as pale skin, fangs etc) and as a result, female vampires in movies today are representing seductiveness and sexuality just like Camilla.

Textual Analysis Blade (film opening)

The opening sequence starts off with a pregnant women who's being rushed to a hospital room. It appears to viewers at first that the lady is just about to give birth but later on realise that she's been bitten by a vampire. Very low key lighting is used during this scene which gives a disorientated and dull tone; it also connotes death which indicates a flash back. The women gives birth and clip then jumps to a long shot of a urban building; the camera slowly zooms in to the building and then a range of fast flashing images is displayed simplifying a futuristic time. The non-diegetic music being used during the whole clip gradually builds up creating tension and making viewers think danger is about to occur. Another jump cut is made to a close up of a couple driving somewhere. The close up of the women portrays to viewers that the women has some vampire conventions like pale skin. The costume of the man includes a red jacket and a red hat; the color red indicates danger and violence. The couple then a arrive at what seems to be a meat shop; they continue to walk and enter what seems to be a club. A long shot showing people wearing just white clothing's with their hands in the air, listening and raving to music is displayed. This shows the setting of the film. The people look rather odd and have a few conventions of a vampire. The women walks away from the man and starts dancing with another women. Several close-ups of the people in the club is shown dancing. The man walks through the dancing people and looks out of place. The fact that he is wearing very vibrant colours suggest that a conflict with these people is about to occur.
